  1. As if dealing with mothers wasn’t hard enough, Josie Moraine has to handle a neglecting mother who sells herself for favors and an absent father. Since coming to New Orleans, Josie has found her niche in the hustle and bustle of the city. She’s since befriended the nieces and the brothel’s madam, Willie. She also has gotten a place of her own and a job because of a man named Charlie and his son, Patrick. She’s down a chaotic path of romance, danger, and adventure. But as Josie battles demons from both the future and the past, is she ever going to truly live life and be happy?
Outta the Easy is an eloquent, expressive story. The struggles of Josie aren’t common for many people, but Ms. Sepetys weaves the ups and downs and the trials and tribulations of being in the situation Josie is and blends it with the relatable feelings of neglect, torment, frustration that we all experience. The reader indulges in this escape only to bond with the characters as you would a friend. Also, the writing style isn’t a strain on the brain but brings you back to the time period. Every detail from the heel of the shoe to the color of the lip is described in an understated, subtle, way. The pace is perfect and keeps the reader constantly turning the pages.
Ruta Sepety’s Outta the Easy is a perfect read. Although a little mature for some audiences, I would recommend it in a heartbeat.
