The Selection, Keira Cass

The SelectionI read the novel, The Selection, written by Keira Cass. It is my favorite novel.  The genre is fantasy. This novel is about a girl named America Singer. This novel is three hundred and six pages long. She lives in a society where everyone is separated into caste. Each caste is based off your skills and your money. America is of the fifth caste. The country they live in is called Illea and is ruled by a king. It comes time for the prince, Maxon to get married. In order of the prince to get married they hold a contest called the selection. In the selection thirty-five girls are picked from around the country. These girls stay at the castle and have dates with the prince, until the prince decides who to marry.  America is picked to compete. At first she had a boyfriend, but he broke up with her right before she left. She comes clean and tells the prince that she doesn’t like him, but would like to stay at the castle, so her family could keep receiving financial aid. He agrees to keep her. While in the palace, America decides that things may not turn out how she expected. I absolutely love this book. I would recommend this for girls from the age of eleven and up.  It would not be a great book for boys. This book is full of romance. It will easily make every girl reading the book fall in love with the prince. You should read this book and decide for yourself. Would you pick the good looking, hard working, low caste boy or the handsome, rich, prince?

This book is about Cath, a girl with an identical twin, Wren. They live in Omaha, Nebraska and they are both about to head to college. Cath and Wren are HUGE Simon Snow fans and have a long running fanfiction story about Simon and Baz, another character from the series. When they head to Lincoln for college, Wren decides that she and Cath should live in different dorms for their new year. Cath is to forced to live with Regan, a sort of punk girl with a very nice, but clingy, boyfriend named Levi. This and her Fiction Writing class would take some getting used to. Her Fiction Writing teacher thinks that fanfiction, Cath’s favorite type of fiction, is plagiarism. Meanwhile, Wren is abusing her new found freedom and their father is struggling to manage his newly emptied nest and stress.  Cath learns to deal with her class with the help of a friend named, Nick. Cath also has to learn how to be in a real relationship when her high school boyfriend breaks up with her and she finds someone she loves. The other question is will she go back next semester or is college is

I highly recommend this book is you like realistic fiction. It does have many relatable themes. If you are a huge fan of Harry Potter then you can relate to her love of The Mage’s Heir.

I would also suggest this book to people who like dramas about teenagers. It is that kind of book and so much more as Cather struggles to find who she is without just being Wren’s sister.
